This test is used to identify elevated levels of interleukin 8 (IL-8).
Life Extension® believes that chronic inflammation which is modulated by cytokines such as IL-8, is the common denominator of all age-related disease. While cytokines are important in the inflammatory response as well as a healthy immune response, the cytokines themselves have the potential for inducing damage, especially at high levels.
Elevated IL-8 levels may occur in different conditions including and not limited to: rheumatoid arthritis, tumor development, and Hepatitis C.
