Liver health formulas made with milk thistle have been in use for centuries. Milk thistle extract contains phytonutrients that fight oxidative stress and support liver health. Combining silybin with phosphatidylcholine and other phospholipids enhances the absorption of milk thistle's active compounds, providing powerful liver health support.
Healthy liver, healthy body
Modern living creates a heavy load on the liver, making it critical to proactively maintain liver health. That’s where liver-friendly herbs such as milk thistle come in.1,2
Milk thistle extract is called silymarin. This extract is a mixture of flavonolignans with powerful antioxidant activity that promotes healthy liver function.3-5 But advanced extraction technology allows us to isolate individual constituents within the silymarin extract itself, to create a high-quality milk thistle extract.
Other compounds in our milk thistle extract
Silibinin (also called silybin) is the most active and abundant flavonolignan found in milk thistle extract. Made up of silybins A and B, it has protective effects on the liver.6,7 Other compounds found in milk thistle extracts, such as isosilybin A and B, contribute to milk thistle’s health benefits as well.
Phospholipids enhance delivery
Silybin can be difficult for the body to absorb. Scientists have enhanced silybin’s bioavailability by integrating it into a phytosome. A phytosome is a tiny sphere made out of plant-derived phosphatidylcholine.
Clinical evidence showed that this silybin-phosphatidylcholine complex resulted in up to 3 times greater bioavailability compared to unformulated milk thistle extract.8
